When or if the 2019-20 NBA season resumes, it’s fair to say that LeBron James will be super motivated to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA championship.
One of his teammates feels that if that’s the case, it may be over for the rest of the league.
“I have a hard time believing anybody on the planet Earth could beat a motivated LeBron James in the postseason,” said teammate Danny Green on the Big Apple Buckets podcast.
Each trip to the NBA Finals could be the last for James, who is 35 years old. Throughout NBA history, it’s been exceedingly rare for an all-time great at that age or above to make it to the championship series, let alone win the title.
Only two players – Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – have won an NBA Finals MVP at age 35 or above.
Also adding to James’ sense of urgency is the fact that this Lakers team may only have a two-year window to come away with the world championship.
For James to truly solidify his argument in the greatest-of-all-time debates, he needs to win more rings. His statistical accomplishments are almost second to none in NBA history, but his 3-6 record in the NBA Finals is very dismal.
Winning a ring or two as a Laker – without any more losses in the Finals – could cement him as the greatest of all time in the minds of plenty of fans.
