UFC star Colby Covington went off on Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in a recent interview with the Daily Wire.
“I know firsthand, when you’re making a lot of money, you need tax write-offs, and these schools, these charities, yeah, he wants to look like a good guy on camera, like he’s doing good for the people,” Covington said. “This is just a tax write-off, man, for his billion-dollar business. He needs this so he can keep all that cash in the bank. It’s not this charitable, nice guy that everybody thinks. ‘Oh, LeBron, he’s giving back to the kids.’ No, he’s just doing that so he can get a tax write-off and keep more money in the bank.”
Covington did not hold back in the interview, and that’s a personality trait that many professional fighters have. It will be interesting to see if James responds to Covington’s remarks.
Both James and Covington are very successful professional athletes who have enjoyed lots of triumph in their respective sports. They also have a lot in common in the sense that they are polarizing athletes in the eyes of many.
Most Lakers fans would agree that James’ legacy is cemented. While basketball fans like to argue about his status amongst the all-time greats, there is no denying that he is one of the best to ever do it in the NBA.
James is a 17-time All-Star and a four-time NBA champion. He has racked up countless awards and honors throughout his playing days, and he will be well on his way to the Hall of Fame once he retires.
James’ Lakers are looking to bounce back in the 2021-22 season after having a disappointing 2020-21 campaign.
