Footage from an AAU tournament over the weekend involving LeBron James’ son brought with it some criticism concerning the Los Angeles Lakers star’s enthusiastic response to his son’s play.
Such responses drew a rebuke from Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, who noted that such actions are simply those of a supportive and loving father.
LeBron James Jr. is continuing to develop his overall game, following in the footsteps of his legendary father. That’s already made him an enviable recruiting target despite the fact that he has yet to play a single game of high school basketball. All along the way, LeBron James has offered his complete support and most likely some advice about the recruiting process.
Tatum’s support of LeBron James isn’t a surprise. In fact, he has idolized the future Hall of Famer since his own childhood.
Set to begin his third season with the Celtics this fall, Tatum is hoping to build on a solid sophomore campaign in which he averaged 15.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Such numbers shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering he was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
James is hoping to bounce back from a frustrating inaugural year with the Lakers, in which injuries limited him to just 55 games.
Judging from his enthusiastic movements in the video, he appears to be back to full health. On top of that, he will of course also be joined by new acquisition Anthony Davis, who will certainly help lighten the load.
While one obvious goal of the Lakers’ new star duo is to break the postseason dry spell of the club, a primary motivation is to bring another championship to L.A.
If that happens, there’s little doubt that LeBron James Jr.’s celebration will be in the same spirit of his father’s.
