There aren’t many players in the NBA that Los Angeles Lakers superstar big man Anthony Davis can truly learn from.
As it turns out, one of the few players that really is able to teach Davis a thing or two is fellow teammate LeBron James.
In a recent sit-down interview with Stadium’s Shams Charania, Davis revealed that he has already learned so much from James about the game of basketball.
“He talks to me all the time,” Davis said. “Especially during the game. He has a great basketball mind. His IQ is off the charts. He sees plays before they happen, some of the passes he makes during the game, I’m just like, ‘Man, how the hell you make that?’ We’re constantly learning from each other. I’m picking up so much information from him when I’m playing like, ‘Oh, slow down or do this, or know what they’re doing so look here.’ He’ll tell me and I’ll do it and it’ll be wide open, or the skip pass will be wide open. I’m just constantly learning from a great mind.
“The one thing about him, he wants guys to learn from him. He pushes the information, he gives information, and it’s on you to take it.”
It’s an incredible look inside one of the most successful partnerships so far this season. Thus far, James and Davis have been dominant on the court and have led the Lakers to a Western Conference-best 8-2 record.
From a statistical standpoint, an argument can be made that they should both be in the conversation for MVP. James is averaging 24.0 points, 11.0 assists, and 8.2 rebounds per game. While Davis is averaging 26.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.9 blocks per game.
If the two stars continue learning from and building off one another, it seems quite likely that the Lakers could be adding yet another banner to the rafters of Staples Center to start off the 2020-21 season.
