If LeBron James were to have his way, the new Los Angeles Lakers offense will run through Anthony Davis when the 2019-20 regular season begins next month.
James revealed this today during media day. Upon hearing the four-time MVP’s suggestion, Davis was flattered to say the least, but also believes that the two of them will be working hand-in-hand to make the offense work.
It’s not often that James will defer to another player when it comes to controlling the offense, but with Davis around, it appears that the four-time MVP can relax a bit more this season.
The multi-talented big man, who came to the Lakers last June by way of a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Pelicans, will be playing with the best teammate he has ever had since he started playing in the pros. While James’ career is winding down at the age of 34, the 26-year-old Davis is just getting started on a career that many expect will lead to the Hall of Fame.
Last season, Davis registered nightly averages of 25.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.4 blocks in only 33 minutes of playing time per game. Expect some of those numbers to rise now that he will be playing alongside an unselfish superstar teammate.
The Lakers have a chance to redeem themselves from missing the playoffs last season with Davis on the roster this time around. The one-two punch featuring two of the best players in the game should result in an exciting season ahead for the Purple and Gold.
