LeBron James is a mentor to one of the NBA’s best players this season as he teaches Anthony Davis how to become a better player.
Early on, James has discovered something that his Los Angeles Lakers teammate needs to work on: watching game film during his downtime.
With a lot of pressure riding on his shoulders to produce in L.A. the same way that he did in his seven years with the New Orleans Pelicans, Davis knows he will be playing in the spotlight much more this season than in previous years.
“It’s a pressure the low-key Davis—who admits that James already rides [him] for not watching enough game film on his downtime, preferring to unwind by playing Madden—says he embraces,” wrote ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“I think having that for the first time is going to be fun,” Davis said. “I’m looking forward to it. Just to show the world, like, ‘All right, it wasn’t a fluke for seven years in New Orleans.'”
Davis has to prove this season that he can continue to be an MVP-type player and a winner at the same time. Performing at a high level on a nightly basis in the bright lights of L.A. isn’t for the weak of heart, but the 6-foot-10 power forward looks ready for the challenge.
As one of the league’s top duos, James and Davis have to be on the same page every night if they want to win a championship in Lakers uniforms. But first, they have to carry this team to the playoffs, a destination that the Purple and Gold haven’t reached since 2013.
After an impressive 123-101 win against the Golden State Warriors in the duo’s first preseason game together, Lakers fans have high hopes that this is the year their title drought ends.
