Anthony Davis Addresses Impending Free Agency at All-Star Weekend

When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired superstar Anthony Davis via trade last summer, they certainly envisioned that he would be an anchor for the franchise for years to come.

However, Davis could technically leave L.A. as a free agent this summer and sign elsewhere.

Davis recently spoked with Jay Cohen of the Associated Press about his NBA future.

“I have no idea about free agency right now,” Davis told Cohen. “I’m worried about this season and what I can do to focus on helping the Lakers win this year and then when that time comes, then come do an interview with me then, we’ll figure it out.”

Davis’ words certainly won’t calm the nerves of Lakers fans.

While experts fully expect Davis to re-sign with the Lakers this summer, he’s given no indication that that scenario is a sure thing.

In his first season with the team, Davis has been a huge reason for the Lakers’ success.

So far this season, he’s averaged 26.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.6 steals per game. Those numbers have him in the running for both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Hopefully, Davis is just staying mum on the topic of free agency in order to focus on the task at hand in Los Angeles.

That task, of course, is to win a title with the Lakers.
