Anthony Davis is very clear about his vision for the 2019-20 season. At the moment, it seems that that is all he is focusing on.
In an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, Davis addressed a lot of questions, including one that involved his future with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Honestly, Rachel, I’m just focused on this season,” Davis said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have one year here, so I’m going make the best of this year. And when that time comes around in the summer or, you know, whenever the season’s over — hopefully, around, you know, mid-June, after we just had a parade, and I need a couple days to think — then we can talk about that. But until then, I’m trying to do whatever I can to help this team win this year.”
Davis signed a five-year, $127.2 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2016. He has a player option in the final year of the deal that allows him to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. He can also opt to play through his contract or sign an extension with the Lakers.
The Lakers gave up three of their top young players along with a number of draft picks to acquire Davis from the Pelicans. A former MVP candidate, the 6-foot-10 big man is one of the premier talents in the league.
He has career averages of 23.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.4 blocks per game.
