Five members of the 2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers were chosen as finalists for the Team USA roster that will head to the 2020 Olympics.
USA Basketball announced on Monday that LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma, Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee were among 44 players who could land spots on the Olympic team that will play in Tokyo this summer.
James last played in the Olympics in 2012 and won the gold medal that year. Davis was also a part of that 2012 team.
Before that, the three-time NBA champion won his first Olympic gold medal in 2008 alongside Howard.
James was also a member of the squad that unfortunately failed to capture the gold in Athens in 2004. That team won the bronze medal instead.
If he is named to the final roster, the four-time MVP would become only the second player in Team USA history to compete four different times in the Olympics. The only player that has already accomplished that feat is Portland Trail Blazers star Carmelo Anthony.
As for the other Lakers players trying to make the cut, Kuzma and McGee are among 25 finalists who have yet to compete for the gold medal in either the Olympics or World Cup.
Kuzma missed the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup this past summer due to an ankle injury.
